Choosing the Right Access Control System for You

Installing access control systems is a way of protecting your property, employees, and visitors from unauthorized entry into facilities, buildings and/or sensitive work areas. Physical access can be granted or denied to individuals based on specific security policies with a wide range of restriction parameters (e.g. time of day, approved work schedule, etc). Facility access control is frequently expanded to control the movement of employee & visitor’s vehicles, scheduled deliveries, and movement of expensive equipment or assets.  Access control can be used to mitigate some risk associated with inventory loss and property theft, and you can significantly enhance the capabilities of these solutions through integration with other smart systems.

We understand that merely adding a keypad to the front gate doesn’t provide sufficient security and protection.  Whether your organization is a small business, regional enterprise or a multi-national corporation with locations around the globe, Invision Communications has the right access solution to give you total control from a single console.  Our experts work with you to design and implement a complete access control systems specific to your environment and business requirements.

Facility access at the perimeter is your first line of defense against unauthorized personnel and vehicle entry. Access gates can be set up at specific control points for employees or visitors to gain access to the property as pedestrians or in a vehicle.  Most customers prefer a single method and form factor for access to all facilities and structures. Integration with digital video surveillance system provides an additional layer of inspection and challenge/response protection for these key areas.

Proximity and card readers come in a variety of form factors, colors, and styles. You can choose from magnetic swipe cards, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), proximity cards, key fobs or other near-field communications devices.  These expandable systems provide cost effective employee, customer, vendor, partner and visitor facility access control.

Devices are designed to meet specific access control requirements.  These relatively inexpensive & small form factor devices allow them to be widely distributed to employees, business partners, vendors, customers or other trusted visitors.  The card readers can be located almost any place where access needs to be restricted.  Increasingly secure web browser and mobile device communication channels for the business owner or facility manager means you stay informed and even receive real events (e.g. alarm conditions) and information feeds (e.g. live video feeds) from the command and control components of the most innovative solutions.

Multi-factor authentication is available for some systems which add user authentication, typically a PIN or passphrase, to go beyond simple user verification. These systems can be configured to allow group or specific individual access for designated areas. The on-boarding administrative console provides granular access control to limit user access by facility or door, date/time restrictions and integration with other smart systems such as digital employee attendance records, cameras, telecommunications, copy machines, elevators and HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) systems.

Biometric access control technologies offer a secure way of protecting your site and staff from unauthorized visitors. These systems rely on the ability of the readers to recognize and associate individuals based on their physically distinguishable characteristics.  Unique physical characteristics that can be used to identify employees and trusted visitors include fingerprint, hands, face, iris or retina, and voice signatures. This access control mechanism minimizes theft, loss, duplication or sharing of employee access cards.
A picture is worth a 1,000 words. Nothing provides context and intent faster than matching a high resolution still or streaming video image for a security notification event triggered by a physical access control sensor.

What happens when a critical security breach has been activated? With the integration of a surveillance camera system, you will have local or remote access to view and respond to a number of specific actions triggered by events such as door tampering, door held open too long, or invalid badge usage. Once an event is activated, a notification can be sent via email or text for further investigation.
